About Me
Does anyone really want to know lots of boring details about my life? For example, would anyone care that I was born in the North West of England and now live in North East England? Would reading a list of my hobbies and interests or a summary of my likes and dislikes brighten up anyone's day?
I suppose some especially curious readers of my stories (and I mean curious in more than one sense of the word!) might be interested to know that my home town is pretty much the same as the town described in Not Always Easy. Those same curious readers may also find it of interest that I live in a large Victorian house situated close to the locations described in Tapping. However, they might be disappointed to be told that I've never experienced anything supernatural in my house.
If I told people about my education, or about my work, or about my favourite books and music, would they know anything important about me? Possibly some small insight into my personality might be obtained from certain pieces of information, for example that I care for a rescued monkey or that I enjoy cooking meals for friends. However, the real me, the private me, is revealed mostly in my writing.
If anyone wants to know the sort of person I am, if anyone really wants to understand how I think, if anyone wants to find out about the private emotions that even my family and friends don't know about, then they can find all those things in my stories.
If anyone does read my stories then I'd very much appreciate feedback, either through my forum or by email.
Of course all authors who publish on the net like to get feedback, if only to know that the results of all their hours of hard work haven't just disappeared into a sea of silence. However, I also enjoy reading thoughtful responses, even negative ones, because I find it fascinating how different readers see the story from different points of view.
A story is just a collection of words which the reader interprets in light of his own experiences and opinions. The words are like a skeleton upon which the reader uses his imagination to put flesh. I know what sort of flesh that I would put on the words, and some readers will hopefully see something similar. However, other readers, with different life experiences, will see things differently. In a way, reading different people's reactions to my stories is like them treating me to a small story of their own in return for the larger story I gave to them.
