'Do you love me?' - Superficially that may seem like a simple and relatively inoccuous question. When Ian is fourteen love seems mysterious but not too complex. When he is sixteen and encounters that question for the first time the answer seems blindingly obvious. As the years pass by he progresses from being a schoolboy to being a university graduate, and that question arises again and again. Each time the answer becomes more and more difficult, and the answers he gives create more and more complications. Eventually, he's not so sure about love any more and he grows to realise that 'Do you love me?' can be a really tough question.
